Having worked on literally hundreds and
hundreds of different vacuum cleaners over the years I feel I'm
in a good position to share my knowledge and guide customers as
to whats the best machines in terms of performance, value for
money and what's cost effective when it comes to servicing and
repairs. I beleive every single appliance should be able to be
repaired in a cost effective way as the throw away society is
not only bad for the planet but your pocket too. Also don't
think just because your buying a Vax etc your buying an original
product. A lot of electrical companies have been bought out by
far eastern mass producing electronic companies that make sub
standard products. |

Numatic (henrys etc) |
Numatic are the company that has
probably suffered the most since the EU made the outrageous
decision to lower the motor wattage. A good older Henry was
fitted with a robust and powerful 1400 watt motor meaning
suction was very good. Sadly the EU forced Numatic to lower the
motor wattage and fit them with a high/low switch to pass the
2012 laws. In 2017 they were lowered to a ridiculous 650 watt
meaning a modern Henry didn't perform half as good as the
original 1400 to 650! New 650 watt Henry's however now have a
small chamber meaning although fitted with a 650 motor the
smaker chamber has compensated the lack of motor power to give
decent suction. We sell refurbished Henry's with various motor
sizes and if you want the ultimate Henry power we can upgrade a
650 Henry by fitting a 1400 motor. We are massive fans Numatic
and the George Carpet Cleaner is in our opinion the best carpet
cleaner on the market bar the industrial ones. All in all
Numatic offer good products and are clearly the second best
behind Dyson. |

Vax (technotronics) |
Firstly Vax is made by Technotronics in
Hong Kong, mass produced and disposable. Having worked on and tested virtually
the full Vax range there is no Vax machine that we'd be happy to
sell. Most upright machines are fitted with a 800w/700w motor
and suction is poor. Motors going down is a common fault and are
not cost effective to put right, brush bar motor failure is also
very common and again not worth fixing. The cordless range is
also very poor with suction and overall performance one of the
worst we have seen. The Vax Blade 2 Max is being sold for £199
which is shocking when you compare it to the Dyson V6 which is
the same price. All in all although fairly popular Vax is a poor
product mass produced by Technotronics and most end up in landfill which is both extremely bad
for the environment and your pocket. |

Gtech |
The Gtech carpet sweeper (sorry vacuum
cleaner) is the poorest piece of kit ever assembled with suction
so poor it'll pick up nothing except on a hard floor and light
house dust. For any type of pet hair etc forget it. A
nylon drive shaft driven by a metal cog means the drive shaft is
doomed to fail from day one and we have seen them go down in as
soon as 3 months and about 70% of the Gtechs we see the
driveshaft goes within the year. Yes it's under Gtech warranty
but try getting them to sort that out. Also Gtech decided to
stop selling the nylon driveshaft as a single component and now
want you to change the whole base of your machine for around a
£100. Would we sell one? Never, the worst out there but clever
marketing has boosted sales of this carpet sweeper (sorry vacuum
cleaner). |

Shark |
Still too early for me to make a proper
fair judgement on Shark but having seen plenty of them and being
fitted with a 750w motor I can tell you suction is poor, also
speaking to other people in the trade it seems the 4 main
faults with Shark are poor filtration and the filter needs
cleaning all the time, the elbow in the hose is very prone to
blockages and is an awkward fix that involves a full strip down
of the wand etc. The main motor is not the best and we've seen
them go down within 3 months, and brush bar motor failure is
also very common. Again, Shark has been very well marketed but
so far I think it's a poor design with massive flaws and like I
always say would I want to sell you one? No never. |

Hoover (technotronics) |
Back in the day all Hoover products
were made in the UK at Ealing, Merthyr Tydfil etc and were a
sturdy, robust machine. We still have a 1960's machine in our
shop that still works to this day! Sadly Hoover were bought out
by Technotronics and any machine now although with a Hoover logo
is made by Trechnotronics. Out of interest Technotronics also
own AEG, Vax, Milwaukee, Oreck, Dirt Devil etc
etc so although you may think your buying a genuine product you
are indeed purchasing Hong Kong mass produced sub standard
products. Would we sell one? Never and repairs to these can
often outweigh the value of the machine. Like Vax most end up in
landfill and it's very bad for our environment. |
